Local Gorski kotar and Delnice Trefoil cuisine, reflects the life of short summers and long winters. As the choice of the local ingredients are limited because of the climate, potatoes are the most common and widely used vegetable as they grow well in the area, cooked in the shell, baked or mashed, always loved by anyone. There are other ingredients used in local cuisine such as sauerkraut, beans, and meat such as poultry and pork. During the late summer periods families are preparing winter salads (pickled cabbage, pickled gherkins, peppers and beetroot) and sweet delicacies (plum jam, apple compote and others).
